Background information
Antonyms are words that have opposite meanings.

Examples:
black/white
hot/cold
empty/full.

Students will naturally increase their vocabulary as they discover the antonyms of words with which they are already familiar.

Did You Know?
The word antonym is derived from the Greek anti, meaning opposed or opposite, and onoma, meaning name.

Some prefixes, such as “un” or “in”, can create an antonym of the root word. Example kind/unkind, consistent/inconsistent.
